Word-On-The-Street-LogoWord on the Street Education Program

When: Tuesdays 6pm - 7:30pm

Where: Jeanene Batten Center

Mission:

To help individuals living in the North Charleston and Charleston areas meet their immediate needs and reach their educational, career, and life goals.

Voucher Program:

This provides incentive for our students to see the program through but also provides them with the breathing room they need to succeed. Voucher can be used for food, van rides to appointments and other programs, clothes for interviews, driver's training, help with license test fees, and emergency utility bills. They will be earned along the way.

Jobs Committee:

A jobs committee is set up to directly connect participants with employers and organizations that are able to assist with the job process such as Goodwill and Trident One Stop. But also to form partnerships with businesses that would be interested in hiring one of our students, oversee trips to job fairs, etc.

Alumni Association:

Once participants complete the program they receive a completion certificate and they will be part of the Word on the Street Alumni Association and they can come back and help others in the program as well as give their testimonies as to how the program helped them.

Attendance and Certification Criteria:

An individual can miss one class and the one class must be made up by receiving the information and completing and covering the week's information. Upon completion of the six weeks individuals will receive a completion certificate.

We are most interested in the student attaining their goals and being successful in what they were meant to do that in them receiving a certificate. We want them to be successful in life and what is more to learn the habit of being successful!
